How It Works

Wheel size affects rolling resistance, momentum, and bike handling. Larger wheels (29"/700c) roll over obstacles more easily, maintain speed better, but are heavier and slower to accelerate. Smaller wheels (27.5"/650B) are nimbler, lighter, and fit wider tires in the same frame. 700c x 25mm and 650B x 47mm have nearly identical outer diameters — making 650B popular for gravel bikes wanting wider tires. For MTB, 29" dominates XC, 27.5" remains popular for aggressive trail/enduro, and mullet (29F/27.5R) combines both.
