How It Works
Average cycling speeds vary widely: casual riding 15-20 km/h, fitness riding 22-26 km/h, club riders 26-32 km/h, competitive 32-40 km/h. Wind, hills, and stops dramatically affect average speed. For planning, assume 2-5 km/h slower than your flat-road average to account for intersections and terrain. GPS speed (moving average) is usually 2-3 km/h faster than overall average because it excludes stops.
